Whitley Barn, Blisland

Currently this small, modest stone barn is uninhabited and is to be converted into a contemporary residential dwelling. The barn features many attractive elements such as the stone quoins, various openings on three facades, and a natural slate roof. The barn has outstanding views across the surrounding fields. The site is within the bounds of an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and it is intended that any proposal made should, include, express and enhance the existing attractive features of the barn and, be complementary, modest and in balance with the existing scale of the barn and site.

The proposed extensions will be finished in vertical timber cladding to compliment and juxtapose against the attractive stone texture of the existing barn and, will also be finished with natural slate to the roofs. The existing openings to the barn will have bespoke timber framed windows, and seamless glazing to enhance the unique character of the property. The new roof lights to the upper floor en-suite and the lower floor lounge area, are to be both elegant and fitted flushed with the slates. Both extensions will feature, contemporary and seamless glazed openings out to the private amenity space facing the field across. The proposed extensions will be virtually invisible to the adjacent houses to the north.
