Stone Barn Conversion

This stone barn conversion just outside of St Columb Major is to be converted into a two bedroom home for our clients. The design retains all the original features, such as the large side openings and granite quoin stones, however as the barn is relatively small the addition of a sympathetic extension to the north and the rebuilding of the collapsing lean-to on the south have been incorporated, both are to be finished with matching stone and quoins.

The roof and gables are to be re-clad with natural slate in place of the existing corrugated steel sheeting. On the site we found the remains of a ramp leading up to the first floor, this is evidence that the roof space had previously been a hay loft, and therefore we have reinstated a dormer to the new roof to emulate its historic appearance.

To maximise the views of the surrounding countryside the roof of the lean-to is to be made a balcony leading off the master bedroom which, as it is south facing, will receive direct sunlight for the majority of the day.

Grade II House & Barns Refurbishment

The property is a detached Grade II Listed house which was originally constructed in c1710. This property stands on the site of an ancient Cluniac Priory. Little of the original building remains, although some early carved stones have been excavated by previous owners.

Replacement Dwelling

The client wished to create a modern, light filled, energy efficient and low maintenance property whilst providing an adequate and adaptable living space. The existing bungalow was in a poor state of repair. It was poorly insulated and expensive to heat with no architectural merit.
