Riverside

A two bedroom, mid terrace house situated immediately adjacent to a river. The brief was for a loft conversion to provide an additional bedroom, with a dormer window to provide views over the river, and the replacement of an existing single storey rear extension.

Internally a wall is removed to create an open plan living space and the stairs are reconfigured, increasing the size of one of the first floor bedrooms and creating space for a ground floor WC.

The new extension is widened to the full width of the plot, with an open plan linked to the existing living room and glazed doors to the garden. At first floor level a roof terrace was requested, and this was designed so that it was partially hidden behind obscure glazed screens and a lean-to roof finished with natural slate. This helps to blend the roof terrace with the traditional character of the conservation area and also ensured privacy to the adjacent houses. Roof windows on the terrace provide light into the living room and finish flush with the timber decking and thick panes of specialist glass allow people to walk over them.
