Menadue Cottage

An existing two storey stone cottage with several single storey outbuildings on the site. It is within an Area of Great Historic Value designed to protect the recent history of early china clay works technology, china stone workings, tin streaming and mining.

The owners of the cottage wanted more space, together with bedroom and bathroom accommodation at ground floor which could be easily accessed and used by disabled persons.

It was proposed to build an extension to the cottage, linking it with the outbuildings, which were to be converted into an annexe. At ground floor level the extension forms a kitchen/dining room and utility, and there are new entrances to both the existing cottage and the extension. The conversion of the outbuildings creates a small sitting room and bedroom, with a small extension containing an en-suite bathroom. At first floor level the extension provides a new master bedroom with ensuite and a balcony. Sun pipes provide light to the existing bathroom.
