Grounds Staff Building, Wadebridge

This project was undertaken for Wadebridge Town Council, for the removal and replacement of existing timber sheds previously used by the grounds staff for a variety of activities (e.g. storage of machinery, staff welfare and paper work).

The old timber buildings had been extended and repaired over the years and were now becoming not fit for purpose, especially with modern large pieces of equipment required to undertake the Town Council's duties in the area and the Council's ongoing duty of care to their employees.

The new building has been designed as a portal frame building, giving sufficient space for a separate workshop/maintenance area and staff welfare facilities.

There is a large, naturally lit workshop area which has now been set out to suit the requirements of the grounds staff. Equipment and tools are now easily accessible and maintenance work can be done in natural daylight, via the large roof lights, which will help keep electric costs to a minimum.

New welfare facilities for the grounds staff are included in the building, i.e. shower/WC, clothes drying area and staff crib room for meals and dealing with paperwork.

The new building has been finished with timber cladding which will weather with age to blend in with other timber buildings in the vicinity.

Following completion and handover of the building to the Town Council's satisfaction, this modern and efficient building, with landscaped finish, presents a new look for a working building in this setting.
